I'm involved with a few communities around the sense of creativity in technology. To create is
not just aesthetic, but problem solving, and sharing our knowledge and perspectives. If we feel
empowered to create, if we practice creation, then our universe belongs to us. I have found
myself in the privileged position of having people around me who are creative and supportive and
witty and kind, and occasionally organising or supporting things for them is the least I can do
in thanks for their presence in my life.
Field-FX
It's in a field. It has demo effects. It's Field-FX. My longest
involvement has been with the folks at
Field-FX, a demoparty held every two years at
EMF Camp in a field in the UK. It's a project to bring the long cultural tradition of the demoscene to
more people, and to promote an inclusive environment of encouragement.
We have been running since 2018 as the brainchild of reality404, who wanted to create a showcase
of demoscene works for the hacker/maker community at the time. Since then the community has
blossomed, come and join us on some of our many social channels!
Online, every Monday night on our Twitch
channel, we get together as a community to chill, make things if we feel inspired, and generally
entertain and support each other. It's a jam session, sometimes in TIC-80 and sometimes in
Bonzomatic, with volunteer DJs and performers providing a soundtrack, live or recorded.
Inspired by the networked TIC-80 livecoding setup that
Lovebyte Party pioneered, and by the amazing Parisian creative hub
Cookie Collective we started doing Twitch
streams of people livecoding on the Field-FX channel. This has been a huge and popular way
to keep inspired, positive and connected. Below is a VOD of one of our events, but there is a
full archive on Scenesat.
